Very informative March 28, 2007 Errol A. Blake (Kennesaw, GA) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I graduated from UAB in the fall of 2004. While attending school I was blessed with the opportunity work as an InfoSec Professional while utilizing Business Intelligence. In the spring semester of 2005 UAB implemented an information security course, i was given the opportunity to audit the course. We used this book in the course, at first i thought that it was over kill and boring, but at the end of the semester i realize that all the information is necessary for students to grasp the concepts of information security. One must remember that information security is still in its infancy as a profession, but it rapidly expanding. This book is great if one need an introduction to the information security profession. I currently have this book in my library, where i still use it as a reference when writing information security related papers for ACM.

Principles of Information Security
I purchased this text book for a college course. Thus far, the book is very comprehensive on all topics, and I saved $25 under the college bookstore price not including free Prime shipping.
Perfect Introduction Book May 12, 2006 RWI (Western New York) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have just finished my sophomore year in college and in my first course relating to information and computer security we used this book. I would recommend it to anybody who is interested in getting into the rapidly expanding field of infosec.
As they say with the CISSP certification, it is an "inch deep and a mile wide". This book covers many, many topics however it is really intended to be an introduction to these concepts.
It gave me a good overview of information security concepts and prepared me for senior level Infosec courses as well as preparation for graduate school.
*Note that preparation for the CISSP exam would require much more then just this book*
PERFECT BOOK June 30, 2003 S. MEGELAS (London, UK) 9 out of 13 found this review helpful
I am a newbie in Information Security. This book is very clear: it provides a broad review of the entire field of IS, background on many related elements, and enough detail to facilitate understanding of the field on management and technical views. The autors are both CISSP and the book is focused on the CISSP Common Body Knowledge. Each chapter contains: Chapter-opening scenario, offline and technical degree boxes , hands-on learning, chapter summary, review summary, questions about it and exercices. "The informations risk and controls are not in balance in technical field"
Great Insight March 6, 2010 M. Smith (FL) This book was a great resource supplement for my Security Methods and Practices class. It gave an awesome breakdown of information security and what it entails. If you're a newbie to information security, I highly recommend this book.
